While at work, I told a female coworker that I would be visiting New York world Fair. She then said homosexuals hang out in Times Square

Sounds like a perfect opening to me

"Really? I didn't know that. Is there something you're trying to tell me?"

And when she denies it you believe her of course, but every so often you get caught giving her a funny look.

Maybe she'll learn something.

I was thinking more on the lines of "...and how do you know this?"

It's also a good check on the *phobia of people.

I did get a major freaky look from one guy once, I was in dude mode about three months on HRT. I have no idea what that was about.

During my first attempt at transition 20 years ago, when my hair was quite long but I was dressed male (with a bright paisley shirt) I had homophobic abuse hurled at me walking in the street by two idiots in a passing ute.

I started a Shiatsu course around that time, and ultimately became quite involved in the college and clinic there. Several years after I detransitioned I told one of the guys from the college about my trans history, he had been an assistant teacher on the night of my very first class there, and he said that explained why they "couldn't work out if I was male or female that night" (I was using an androgynous name)!

Also during that time, close to my decision to detransition, I had just had my hair cut short at the back. As I got off a bus I overheard two women (deliberately being biatches) saying "is that a guy or a girl"? Obviously an intended slur but I'm not quite sure how they meant it. I just ignored them.

I was once called gay behind my back by a female friend of my co-worker (who is also my best female friend) - the reason I know that is because she later told me about that as a funny incident.

As far as experience when dressed as man, I can attest that this draws waaay more attention than androgynous style.

Should have just hugged her and said you are totally ok with her sexuality
I will touch a 100 flowers and not pick one.
