"This past Saturday, along with some fellow queer friends, I made my way to the neighborhood park where a local organization was showing the film Mean Girls. I ordered vegan tacos from a food truck and enjoyed a margarita or two during the showing, so it was an otherwise very pleasant outing. That was until the emcee started to speak. Now, I'll refrain from using the emcee's name as well as the name of the company who put on the event, as public shaming isn't really my MO, though five minutes of searching for them on the internet you can probably figure it out if you wanted to.

The comedian started out by mis-gendering Caitlyn Jenner and not bothering to use her real name, all in attempt to make a mean-spirited joke about her family, comparing the Plastics of North Shore High School to the Kardashian sisters"

This whole story makes me very sad, not surprised, but sad.

I posted a poll a few weeks back where a lot of people said they didn't mind jokes about us.

If our community has that attitude, this sort of thing will keep happening. As long as it's acceptable for us to be the butt of jokes, people will not take our issues seriously. My vision is a world where making fun of transgender people will be on the same level of shamefulness as making fun of anyone else for their culture, religion, race, gender, etc.

That's it. This unnamed person has the nerve to call herself a trans supporter, just after PRETTY MUCH DOING THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF SUPPORTING TRANS PEOPLE?
People went too far with this ages ago. Now they're just crossing the line again and again, thinking that we can't do anything about it.


I'm losing faith in humanity faster than I can regain it.
If I can regain it.

They can joke all they want, it makes it extra easy to know who's an a-hole that way. And trust me, any conversation no matter how insipid or mean it can get is better than nothing. We exist. That's so much better than being swept under the rug and forgotten. Besides, even cis-people are noticing the  transphobia and hate now, and everyone now knows at least one trans person even if they didn't have a Netflix account nor watch Janet Mock's show, nor pay attention to the modeling world. [emoji53]
