I've been in therapy before I moved, and had a great therapist on the recommendations of a trans* friend.  The choice was easy.  I lived in a very small, conservative town and drove an hour each way to meet with the only gender therapist close by.

Now that I moved to Portland, the choices are many and varied. I don't know anyone here yet, so I don't know who to ask for personnel recommendations.  I've looked at dozens of websites, but they don't necessarily seem to reflect what I'm looking for.  Any suggestions?

Is there a queer clinic in Portland? There's one here in Philly, and that's how I got set up with my therapist -- who is totally awesome, by the way!

Look for an LGBTQ clinic. All of the bigger cities seem to have one. Mine is sort of a one stop shop for therapy, doctors, pharmacy, etc. I'd be very surprised if Portland doesn't have one.

I can't help specifically in the therapy department. I did online therapy for the purpose of referrals and given the option would never do anything else.

Is there any way you could convince your former therpist to do sessions via skype ?

Well as others have said... you might look at lgbt places, or look up transgender groups and ask there for a referral...
