Sept 27
NYC, NY

QuoteAutumn is just around the corner, and almost all of us will be going through our closets, switching seasonal wear.  We'll all most likely find things we haven't worn in 2 or more years, things that no longer fit--{we all lost too much weight over the summer :) }-- or things that we look at and have to ask ourselves "What was I thinking?"  What to do with all these clothing items we no longer want or need? hmmm?

The Transgender Project in collaboration with The Nowhere Bar, NYC, is holding it's first

Clothing Swap / Clothing Drive

Here's how it works:

Thursday, Sept. 27, you bring one (or more) bags of unwanted, clean, gently used clothing items you no longer want to The Nowhere Bar.  Male AND female clothes are needed. If someone else brings a jacket, skirt, or dress you absolutely love, you can "swap"  The idea here is to leave with a whole lot less than you arrived with. No money is involved!

What to do with all the other clothes?  They will be donated to Sylvia's Place here in Manhattan.  Slyvia's has been providing food and shelter to Transgender, Gay and Lesbian youth for many years, but they can always use our help.

In my work with The Transgender Project, I have come to meet many of these young, homeless, transgender sisters and brothers.  I can tell you that besides food and shelter, THEY NEED CLOTHES!  The colder weather will soon be upon us, and these kids have practically nothing but the few clothes on their back--literally.

ESPECIALLY NEEDED are womens shoes in larger sizes, and clothing suitable to wear to a job interview, and coats and jackets, but ALL items are appreciated.

Can't make the date?  You can leave a bag of clothes at The Transgender Project office before hand!  No clothes?  Make a cash donation by check made out to 'Sylvia's Place'.

This is going to be a really fun night, and I sincerely hope you will all be able to participate.  More details will follow, but you can call Mona at the TG Project for more info.  And of course, if you DON'T live in the NYC area, you could try something like this in YOUR hometown!
