Hey guys,

I am nearing four months post op. My mom bought me a box of scar strips after reading about them online, so I figured I would give them a shot just to see (though I honestly don't care how my scars look).

I wore them as the box directs for a week, only taking them off to shower. My scars felt really smooth and less raised than before. Last night I forgot to put them on after I showered (dead tired), and slept through my first alarm this morning so I didn't have time to put them back on. When I came home and got changed after work today, it seems everything is back to the way it was before.

For anyone that has used these, could you give me a rundown of how things progressed for you in terms of look and feel? Is there maybe a trick to them that I'm missing? Is the liquid version more effective?

Maybe this could help:
myscaraway.com/frequently-asked-questions/

They recommend a duration of treatment of 8-12 weeks for new scars...

I've been using the Scar-Away strips for about 4 weeks now. I only use them every other day or when I go to work (sometimes I forget to put them on). I change them every week and I notice my scars are starting to turn a little pink in some areas. Some areas are still a bit red but they seem to be getting a bit softer and smoother. The only issue I have with them is they start to peel off on the area where my drain holes were (under my arm pit) and they sometimes start to turn reddish in that area too but I think that's because of my deodorant. I always use cocoa butter on my scars too after my shower.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

i don't like the scar strips because they seem to fall off easier. i use kelocote so if you're lookign for a liquid, i'd go for that. either way, make sure your scar strips are made with silicone.

Adding potentially necessary details - they are ScarAway brand, so silicone based. I also apply coconut oil after I shower.

When I put them on it made the scar flat but it would go back to bunchy shortly after taking them off.

Well they write:
should be worn a minimum of 12 and up to 23 hours per day for 7 days

softening of the scar may occur in just a few days.
Improvement in scar color and thickness may be seen in as little as 4 weeks
results will increase gradually over the treatment period.

By using... immediately after your wound has healed, you will maximize the opportunity for optimal results.

I think I started using mine at about 4 weeks post op. I figured the earlier I could use them the better. Sometimes I wash them with a regular soap just to get some of the dead skin off and then I let them air dry over night. They still seem to be a bit effective but like I said earlier the arm pit area peels off a lot easier and plus my job involves a lot of physical work so moving around is obviously not helping it stay on. I change the strips every week.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.
