#NotMyStonewall: Why I'm Not Giving The Movie "Stonewall" A Chance

"Almost immediately, people were upset that trailer depicted the fictional main character, Danny Winters (played by Jeremy Irvine), throwing the first brick that initiated the riots instead of activist Marsha P. Johnson, who is credited for that moment. While there is no absolute certainty as to who actually threw the brick, Johnson undoubtedly played a vital role in the Stonewall Riots and the LGBT movement."

Op-ed: Both Stonewall and Stonewall Deserve Your Attention

http://www.advocate.com/commentary/2015/08/14/op-ed-both-stonewall-and-stonewall-deserve-your-attention

The advocate/BY Mark Segal August 14 2015 4:15 AM ET

"It's been amusing and angering watching the debate and suggestion of a boycott over the forthcoming film Stonewall. The reality is that nearly all the people on both sides have one thing in common: They weren't there. And they are speaking for those who were there, acting as if we are not alive and cannot speak for ourselves. This shows a lack of understanding of our own shared LGBT history."

"I've been a publisher chronicling our community for 40 years now and am wondering how you can boycott something you haven't seen and that is a fictional movie based on a true story. If you want to know the facts rather than fiction, read David Carter's book Stonewall or any number of LGBT history books. That's where the truth is, not in your local multiplex."

Well imo people see it different.
They tend to accept what is shown in the movies. How high is the percentage of people doing their research ? And then having to persuade other people what are historic facts and what not ?

If there is action A as consented history, given by the majority of witnesses, why replacing it with action B ?

And why not making a fictional movie on fictional places then ?

Why using historic places and happenings ? To attract more people ?

I also disagree with Mr. Segal.

The problem with the Stonewall movie (at least, what people have seen in the trailer) is not just that it doesn't agree with history.  The problem is that it's yet another example of how the history of the Stonewall riots has been rewritten to be centered on cis white gay men.  It's called "erasure."  Mr. Segal may not have noticed this erasure, since, being cis white gay male himself, it's not his group that's being erased.

There was a "Lone Ranger" movie that came out not too long ago.  It's obviously fiction, but the fact that it was fiction did not invalidate criticisms that it contained racist tropes.

Obviously what they did was wrong. To be blatant about it, it  was a gay white director who seems to have wanted  one part of the LGBT movement to be the dominant force. That being said it is just a movie not a documentary and Hollywood does sell whatever soul it has for the price of theater tickets. Jesus Christ to mention another who was cheaply distorted for the price of a ticket. Its sad , but how can we get the human race to fulfill its potential. I for one haven't the slightest idea. I wish the human race could be human.

Its not as easy as it used to be.
Lgbt subjects seem to be popular so some people came up with the idea of a movie.
More and more people see through the tricks.
And its a minority. the majority of people is more well meaning imo.
There is also much hope for new generations.
They get it much faster, and are more open... more accepting of womens rights... etc...

Well they will be more human imo... starting to look inwards toward what feels right instead of outwards towards authorities...

and its often exponential effects...

there is a 100th monkey effect... as soon as a certain percentage of a population gets it, its accessible to all...
its used for example in teaching... if you want to invent something new in a company 10% are taught and it spreads to the rest...

lets hope for love and peace  :)

Stonewall Whitewashes Trans History. Why I'm Seeing It Anyway

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-lambert/stonewall-whitewashes-tra_b_7982208.html?utm_hp_ref=transgender

The Huffington Post/Michael Lambert   08/14/2015

""Seneca Falls ... Selma ... Stonewall." I gasped, and the other college students in our subterranean computer lab frowned at me. I shrugged by way of apology, and they slipped back into their somnolent attempts at studying.

Winter holidays had ended, and the new semester had many of us struggling to let go the comfort that Christmas and a new year had brought. However, one word had banished the lazy weakness from my muscles. One word had pushed me to the edge of my seat, staring deeper into a computer screen -- so close I could discern the pixels -- as the world's most powerful man took his vows of service to my country."
