Advocates hailed the appointment of the first openly transgender official to serve at the White House as an important step toward gender equality.

The White House has hired its first openly transgender official.

Raffi Freedman-Gurspan, a former policy advisor for the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), began Monday as outreach and recruitment director for the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.

I met someone once who had worked in the Clinton WH prior to their transition, and one day some FBI agents came in to talk to people. One guy sat with her and said "Ever do drugs?" "Well, in college, yeah". "We see you're getting therapy, what's that about?" "Oh, I have Gender Identity Dysphoria". "OK, then, thanks for your time".
