One Couple Shares Their Experience as Transgender Soldiers

It's actually a pretty inspirational story!

GOOD/by Katie Ratcliffe   06/11/2015/ New York Times

"This New York Times opinion documentary, created by Fiona Dawson, follows a transgender couple who both serve in the United States Military. While these patriots serve our country, they also worry about being discharged should a new superior learn about their transformation. That's because transgender people are not allowed to openly serve in the military due to outdated medical regulations in which they are considered psychologically impaired. While Logan Ireland has gained support from his leaders and peers, his fiancé, Laila Villanueva, has not been so lucky. Through their story we are able to gain a better understanding on the strict gender norms the military abides by and the strides the LGBTQ community must take in facing them."
