I haven't been posting here for a while, but since this is pretty much right up my alley... I started going to the U of M about 1 1/2 years ago, and overall I would say my experience was very positive. I was pretty nervous about how my first appointment would go since I had been self medicating for a while and I wasn't sure how they would react. But the way my therapist reacted was to give me a referral to see their Endocrinologist during my very first appointment.

They generally do like you to have a few sessions before they give referrals for HRT, but they are also not fans of gate-keeping. And keeping someone who is self medicating from getting proper prescriptions and monitoring for what they are already taking really accomplishes nothing. My only real issue was that I experienced an unexpected change of therapists when my first therapist graduated from her post doctoral program (which I think due to an oversight was not a thing I was informed was going to happen), and that severely delayed the referral for an orchiectomy that I was working on getting. But other then that, I really liked both my therapists, and I have no regrets about going there.
