"Another university is trying to be more inclusive by encouraging the use of gender-neutral pronouns.
The University of Tennessee is encouraging tutors to ask students which pronouns they want to be referred to using."

This was reported in another thread recently (though I don't seem to be able to find it - maybe it was taken down). I think UTN recanted, because their original page was taken down and all that's left are news reports that referenced.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I took it down because the source was deleted, you couldn't access the story

University scraps plans to use gender neutral pronouns after backlash

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2015/09/07/university-scraps-plans-to-use-gender-neutral-pronouns-after-backlash/

Pink News/Nick Duffy   09/07/2015

"In a web post last month, the uni encouraged tutors not to assume that all students want to be referred to as "he" and "she"  – and to use gender-neutral pronouns such as "they" or "ze" where requested.

However, following a backlash from local and national media, the advice has since been pulled down from the university's website.
After negative publicity, UT President Joe DiPietro told trustees that the references to gender-neutral pronouns will be removed from the school's Office for Diversity and Inclusion website"

The University of TN (I graduated there in 1994) is a land grant University where a large part of their funding comes from grants. It was those large contributors  ( like Bill Haslam, they recently names a College of Business building after him ) who are very conservative that threatened to pull money away. That is why they pulled that from their site. I was just there back in May to verify they changed my name on my records by getting a copy of my transcript. They were very nice about changing my name and gender on my records. I also visit a close friend that still work there. She was telling me about a professor that transitioned a few years ago and the University was behind her and supportive the whole way and she still teaches there.
