Okay I don't know exactly where to put this soo if it needs to be moved then I don't mind

I'm so tired of society thinking they can make up the rules about how someone should look, as in dress or wear their hair. My 5 year old niece comes to me last week and asks me '' can you cut all my hair off '' she wanted it short as in a buzz cut and so I asked it if was alright and her mother (my sister) allowed me to do it cause she doesn't mind that her daughter likes to dress up in boy clothes, play with hot wheels and so forth. Well today she comes to me and goes '' uncle Gage '' ( I love how she get's my pronouns right and get's mad when everyone else misgenders me it's adorable) '' why does everyone keep calling me a boy? '' and it saddened me cause she will get super upset about it and scream '' I am a girl ''. There is also this little boy in her class and he wears his hair long, shaven on the sides and braided down the middle kinda like Leland from dog the bounty hunter and today I over heard him asking his mom when me and my sister when to pick up my niece '' mom why does everyone call me a girl cause of my long hair''. Why should society tell us how we want to wear our hair! why can't a little girl wear her hair short and a little boy wear his hair long, why can't they wear the clothes they want, why do they tell us we have to act and be the gender that we were born as! I hate this world

This is what annoys me the most  >:(.  I want to be fem and have my ear pierced (not saying that can't be masculine, but I don't care if the earrings are gendered male or female, as long as I like them), but my dad would never approve. I want to move out soon so you bet I'm going to buy the girliest decorations possible :D. The world is slowly changing, I have no doubt in our lifetime we'll be a lot more open.
They/them pronouns preferred.

Unfortunetly this is what can happen when people fail to seperate peronality from gender.

Well to be precise, no one is telling her not to wear her hair that way, they're just using it as a gender cue.

Gender identification is powerful, right? That's why we literally go crazy if we can't be seen as the gender we identify with. That isn't any different for cis people. It helps them (and us) to have gender norms that reassure them that the fit in with other members of their gender.

I will try to explain with a joke from a friend psychiatrist. "Your subconsciousness drives your sex desire, your consciousness tells you how to do it and society tells you - Please not on the street! "
