"Christian groups are up in arms against the release of a pro-transgender book for kids entitled "George." The book tells the story of a 10-year-old boy named George who does not really feel like a boy and prefers to be called "Melissa."

Ohhhhh. That's my problem! I was confused by some book someone read me when I was a kid. I knew there had to be a reason.

Instead, let's have them read a book that encourages cannibalism (2 Kings 6:29), says slave ownership is totally ok as long it's foreigners (Leviticus 25:44), reminds the kids that they can be murdered at any time for dishonoring their parents (Leviticus 20:9), and makes sure the boys protect their testicles because they can't get into heaven if they're ever injured (Deuteronomy 23:1).

Far less confusing!  Makes perfect sense to me!

was that book the bible, I was scared to turn around as a kid thinking I'd be randomly turned into a pile of salt.

They are right, it might confuse them. Confusion is good; it is the mother of understanding. Why are we so afraid of confusion? Were they ever confused about things in the past? Did their brain melt and run out their ears, or did it lead to them figuring stuff out?

What they really mean, is that it might lead them to think about it, and say 'actually it's ok' and they don't want that because, well, they don't like us and so others should not like us too, without thinking about it.
