Well my lovely GP of over 30 years retired, so search for a new one. In the end my psych gave me a name to a friend she went to med school with. I had my first appointment today.

She had never met a TG woman before (that she knew off) and not as a client. She wanted to know everything. She realised the issues of having a medic as a client (we make lousy patients), and immediately offered to look after my HRT and to combine her care with my general health care needs.

A 15 min appointment took an hour! She was great!

I just thought to post so people realise there are non-judgemental GPs around who just want to help.

My original GP when I started transition was a cold fish, very detached and unemotional so I expected little from him, but he was very professional and assisted me in the early stages.

He retired about two years ago and I moved to another doctor at the same practice. She is my age and definitely more approachable, but it threw me when she started asking for details of my then upcoming GRS. She found it fascinating and could not resist asking questions and discussing the details "...so they section the scrotum into three parts? And the glans gets relocated - all of it or part?...". I am so used to people NOT wanting the details that it took my brain a few seconds to get in gear. We had a chat and more than a few laughs.

Oh yes, she was quite shaken by the 'grim' realities! I think she cringed a few times

At the very start of my transition i went to my GP at the time and it was a very stressful time. He made me feel that i was mentally sick and that the only way i could get help is if i went to see a psychologist regarding my disorder. I told him that i was trans and he said that it didnt really excist. At that point i left feeling hurt and comfused because he was my family doctor from when i was a baby. So i trusted him. I went to the psychologist he told me to go to and it was him who told me that i was trans and there is nothing wrong with that and he put me in the right direction.. I went back to see him to tell my GP what was said and he said. " I dont agree with transgender, so i dont have to know about it" so i put in a complaint and i found out that his wife delt with all of that.. So i feel that because of him i started my transition late and the way he made me feel made me think life was not worth living...

After all of this from him and his poor excuse for a practice i desided to change and to start fresh. And when i did i spoke to my new GP regarding my transition and from when i did things moved very quickly and she gave me respect and loyalty in the process too.. And even now after my surgery she still asks how i am and how things are going.. Even if i just go in there for something unrelated..

There are some vile people out there who in my opinion should not have a medical license and need to get what they deserve. Because there is no reason to make someone feel bad when your paid to help people. But there are also some lovely people out there who want to help you and they do care about you too. And they will always ask "how are you today".
