In October of 1945, 80 percent of white students at Froebel High School in Gary, Ind., walked out of classes to protest the racial integration of their school. School officials threatened to punish the striking students, but to little avail. City officials, parents, and students made no move to end the stalemate for weeks. It drew national attention and shone a spotlight on America's ugly side.

More than 100 people joined in support of Missouri transgender high-schooler Lila Perry Friday at the #LiftingUpLila rally  at the park in her hometown of Hillsboro.

A week ago, almost over 150 of Perry's peers protested outside Hillsboro High School, objecting to her expressed wish to use the girls' restroom at school. The #LiftingUpLila rally was organized by the Missouri Gay-Straight Alliance Network with the assistance of the Transgender Law Center and the national GSA Network.

Once again Brynn Tannehill hits one out of the park. I sleep better at night knowing she's out there speaking for us.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?
