What are some of the things you guys do before you do your T shot? I know I watch funny shows, pump myself up to music, etc. Considering I have to do this for the rest of my life it'd be nice to get some more ideas

Honestly, for me, it has just become another mundane task...like clipping my toenails, or scrubbing the toilet.  One more task to complete every week.  I find it neither exciting nor dreadful, so give it very little thought.

Personally I CANT do anything before it, otherwise I start to think about it which makes me nervous. I do it first thing when I wake up, my alarm says "go do shot" so I just go do it.

I relax with a cup of coffee. Then I do my workout routine for the day. Afterwords I take a quick shower then sit  cool and relaxed while prepping my shot. Then I take it.

Drink some water. Use the bathroom. Turn on the AC or a fan. Watch the Shia Labeouf video.

I usually do mine right after I get out of the shower. I also feel like it's just become another "task" like HeyTrace19 mentioned. When I first started I would have to listen to music etc to work up the nerve, but it's just another thing like brushing my teeth now.

Hover around my fiancée like an annoying mosquito while she prepares the shot and go to the toilet so I don't get some sudden pressing need while having a needle stuck to my butt. I also set up my cellphone's stopwatch to help my fiancée to time the shot right. Then I just try to relax as much as I can and prepare myself mentally for the next ~10 minutes. The joys of IM shots.

absolutely nothing lol.

my mom does my shot so i just ask if she's able to do it at the moment..after getting a yes i draw out the t. we go to to an area where i can lean against something, like a couch or bed, and i put all of my weight on whichever leg (that belongs to the glute) i'm not being injected to. remember to relax and it'll be over soon.

Yeah, I can't help but wonder how many of the guys on this thread do IM, rather than subq?  I think of this every time I see a shot thread where guys are talking about anxiety doing their shot.  I do subq and have no anxiety.  I have never done IM, but I can see myself being really anxious about it.

The only anxiety I had about doing the subq was at the beginning that I would be doing it right.  I had problems with working the syringes (I didn't realize they twisted on and would try to pull them off!), but in terms of the shot itself, I never had a problem.  During that time I sat with a cup of coffee and relaxed first.  I did them on Saturday mornings.

I think IM is a lot more common, Bimmer. It's pretty rare I see guys talking about doing subq. Honestly, I think subq would freak me out a lot more, but everyone's different.

For what it's worth, my ritual is pretty boring. Wake up, take my other medication, have a granola bar while I set up for my shot, wait a century because I draw with a 23 right now, and clean off whichever leg I'm using for the day. I've got no needle anxiety but timing it was always weirdly difficult for me, so I worked out a system where I put on "This is Gospel" by Panic! at the Disco and when it gets to the "goooooo" part, I stick the needle in my leg. Pretty efficient for me. (It's not part of my pre-shot ritual, but I also read a minute-or-so's worth of text to record my voice after each shot, then write a comparison/update post. It helps me keep track of what happened when.)

As far as I know and from what I've read, subq isn't even a thing here (Finland). It's either gel or IM shots. :P

And honestly I rather have IM even with all the anxiety and such. I'm on Nebido so I have a shot day only four times in a year. :D
But I gotta admit, I feel a bit more jumpy about my shots now since the last one hit a nerve and damn. Never again. Just hoping my fiancée doesn't remember that happening.

I do IM and I have no anxiety. My shot routine is really just an extended version of my normal daily routine.

I get anxiety with subq shots.
There's an actual genetic reason some people get the needle phobia they do- some people get uncontrollable physical reactions to needles, and it runs in families. Usually it's fainting. And the fainting when you have no anxiety like that is so unnerving and awful feeling that people tend to get the more classic phobia as well on top of the physical reaction. (They're both called needle phobia which is confusing, but google genetic needle phobia and stuff comes up.)
I'm saying this just to explain why some people do get anxiety over subq needles. It's because regardless of whether or not the needle hurts or I'm anxious or anything, I WILL feel faint from the minute the needle goes in until several minutes or more after I'm done. There have been times I've had to stop my shot because I've gotten so close to fainting while injecting it. I do subq because my issues are somewhat linked to needle length- the longer the needle is, the worse my reaction is to it.
On top of that there are also anxiety disorders to consider. Generally we know that we're anxious for no reason but that doesn't change the fact that it makes us anxious.
