"PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland bar owner must pay $400,000 in damages to a group of transgender patrons he asked to stay away, the Oregon Court of Appeals affirmed Wednesday. The state Bureau of Labor and Industries ordered the penalty in 2013, saying the bar violated a law that prohibits discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation or gender identity."

Eventually these bigots are going to get the message.

Just imagine the outcry if it had been any other minority group that had been asked to stay away - "your kind is not welcome here" - shades of 1950.

Hitting them in the pocketbook will certainly help make the point that bigotry comes with a cost. As an example the things that were considered acceptable in 1950 are not considered that way today, due to the penalties involved and social pressure and awareness. Making bigots pay is a good start toward achieving the same outcome for us I think.

Lets see if they now try to somehow spin the case to make the bar owner a victim.

I'm sure there will be a fundraiser so the bar owner can close up shop and retire.
