My name is Jasmine, and I am twenty four years old. I was scheduled to have sex reassignment surgery tomorrow, but I have chosen to reschedule it. I began female hormones at the age of fourteen that's ten years ago. As you can guess I am a male to female, and three months ago I married the love of my life a female to male. We decided we wanted biological children. So I rescheduled my surgery. My doctors swore that it would take years for my body to produce sperm again, and maybe never would due to the ten years on hormones. However, after only two months of stopping my body produces sperm as if I never took them. My sperm levels are normal. So we are working on making babies. He has never been on testosterone, so we are completely fertile. I'll keep you guys posted on any baby news! ;) Honestly, I don't know if I'll ever have my surgery, or take hormones again. Yes, I am a female, and I always will be, but I feel so healthy. Making love is amazing, and my body just feels right. So no matter how long you've been on hormones, don't lose hope, you might still be able to recover your fertility! Blessings! Jazzy

Good to hear from you and your love! :)

It's also good to know that fertility can be recovered even such a long and early time on hormones.

I'm a strong believer in that tans people shouldn't be pushed into surgery if they don't want it, even if the thought of a "woman with a penis" or a "man with a vagina" makes people uncomfortable.

Intersex people demand the right to avoid genital surgeries because of the risks to health and sensation, so why shouldn't trans people do the same?

You are what you are and should follow your heart :)

^^^ agreed! The reason I chose to post my story, is because other transgender people kept telling me that after ten years on hormones I was probably sterile. That's not true! It's never too late to recover your fertility! Honestly, I have no regrets of taking hormones. I'm a girl. I'm just figuring out where I go from here. My doctors say my breasts will never go away. My facial hair has been permanently removed. Nobody doubts that I am a female. I don't know.. I don't want to take hormones anymore. I really enjoy the health benefits of testosterone.

Congrats! Having children was always a dream of mine when I was a young girl and I was so jealous that girls could have babies and boys couldn't and I wanted to go everything that a female went through when it came to giving birth and everything else that they have to go through, yes that pain and all.

Jaz- I am so pleased you are happy and doing what you feel is best for you, your body and your family.  Hope that you can have some good news soon. I love to hear about people doing something they really want and I'm sure your child will have an amazing pair of people raising them up to be a lovely human being ;D  Your avatar is beautiful and your spouse (would he prefer husband?)  is a lucky guy!

I have heard that FTM can also be fertile even with T, but it does have a negative effect on fertility, so probably for the best to go for children now if he does decide to go on hormones in the future.  Personally, having my ovaries removed because I have never really been able to fathom the idea of having kids.  It's such a great responsibility but I think you'll do stellar

What health benefits do you have?

Weight loss, glowing healthy skin, obviously fertility, my erectile dysfunction has completely vanished, and finally I can endure more exercise. I feel much more healthy overall. Much less food cravings which helps me eat healthier.

Great to hear that you are so happy now after being so close having srs.  Great too, that your sperm production has return so you are not sterile and can have erections so you can have relations with your husband.  I am surprise that either one of you have any dsyphoria with your bodies and can enjoy true male/famale relations with with each other.  I being ftm could never see myself ever being with a man; I just have no interest in such a relationship.  All I can say enjoy each other and making babies; I hope you have success soon.  Are you tracking his fertile days each month and making sure to have relations then.?  Your baby will natural parents thou mother and father will be reversed.  Good luck hope to see positive results soon here.

A short note that getting pregnant while on T could be a bad idea, esp. for a female child. First of all, the embryo's genitalia develop during the first 6 weeks, and would probably masculinize with additional T, i.e. the female child could have partial or full external male genitalia.
Artificial hormones during pregnancy, esp at high/constant dosages, are also suspected to cause other health issues like non-genital malformations or defects of body chemistry, also vulnerability to certain types of cancer.
So make sure that you don't pregnant accidentally while on T, guys!

Did/Do you take hormone blockers?

It's actually very unique. When we are together it's like gender does not exist. Of course to the world I'm female, and he's male, but behind closed doors I can express my masculine side, and he his feminine side. We have agreed not to have bottom surgery. Together we are perfect just the way we are. We are working closely with our doctors to get pregnant.

Soo hubby, and I stayed up watching a scary TV show, but he fell asleep on the couch lol I'm in bed scared that I'm going to see the seaweed monster! On a more serious note, I haven't been feeling well. My breasts are lactating, and in the mornings are very painful. It's gotten so bad that I've considered going to the ER, but all they'll do is give me pain killers, which can affect my fertility. I'm also not allowed to wear tight pants, so for now I wear my husband's basketball shorts. I've been ordered by our specialist to keep my testes cool. Also, I need to start taking men's vitamins. I will admit that I hate that my body hair grows so much faster, but that's a small sacrifice, compared to babe to who has to endure shark week (menstrual cycle) every month. That's all for now. Love you ladies, and gentlemen! :)

Yup I took the highest dosage of t blockers, and estrogen you can imagine. I actually started taking medroxyprogesterone about six months before my marriage. For the record I never took puberty blockers. I was put on full blown female hormones at the age of fourteen, and I'm twenty three now. Maybe that's why I didn't lose my fertility? I must admit that my own medical story intrigues me, because everyone swore I would be sterile.

This "fit" is out there for us!

Dearest pal of mine, who opened the closet door for me, she and I click on all sorts of important feelings. She looks like a boy, I look like -- look like I'm me, giving it my best shot! ☆☆☆

Told my therapist "At 67 I'm not able to resolve sex/gender with romantic rekations."

"-- Because you've not found a secure relationship!" she says . . .

You found that! I'm getting closer!

More importantly, exposing a developing fetus to external testosterone (or any sex hormone) is likely to interfere with its sexual development, and could end up producing a child who is trans or intersex. Not that there's anything wrong with being trans or intersex, but (as most of us know all too well), both conditions do tend to lead to that person having a much more traumatic life than being cis. Also, in animal experiments, females who were prenatally exposed to testosterone ended up developing a condition very similar to PCOS in human beings. They were less fertile, and ovulation ceased at an earlier age than unexposed females. So it's something to be avoided.

It could also lead to vulnerability to certain types of cancer later in life. I think that the theory for artificial hormones in high dosages causing other types of birth defects is not 100% off the table. I've seen studies pointing at bones and immune system for example. Though that might be mostly for artificial progestines and estrogenes.
I'm not sure about the T that trans men get. Is it 100% body identical?
