Anyone doing a DIY 'stume this year? I'm about 80% done with my mask, but I've never:

a) worked with latex before
b) made any sort of costume before

Anyone doing the same? If so, what are your materials?

I used liquid latex and toilet roll layered, then painted with foundation and sheer loose powder, and another layer of latex.

i'm going as the invisible man if you get my drift.
(i have an intense aversion against dressing up. it's actually quite limiting. i find myself drawn towards acting but then
I remember the costumes and make-up. no thanks, i'll stick with my guitar playing. at least that doesn't make me feel anxious just by practicing). Last time I got over myself and dressed up was 2008. Great Halloween. Fantastic chili. I think I chose a Michael Myers costume IIRC (normal clothes and cliché mask). No make-up, a simple costume and a fake knife. One of his friends threw a party and I went with my best friend. He wore a scream mask and a cheap skeleton costume (you know, the weird jumper things). The other boy's mom made a magnificent chili that day. One of my older cousins came along in case things got too much. My mother was really sick then (she recovered though).

Haven't been able to dress up since. Carnival 2009 I took off my costume in the car and put on my normal clothes again. I briefly said hello to some students (i was mainly forcing myself to be there because i had a bit of a crush on one of the girls) and left. Didn't participate in the festivities then or in the following years. I actually stayed at home because people in costumes used to freak me out.

What are you going as?

My own sorta thing - doing an Ed Gein inspired mask, not that I condone nor romanticize what that man did, I was just reading up on him while having a conversation with my partner about Halloween.

Hopefully covering as much of my face, I'm hanging with 2 professional make up artists / drag performers, so anything I paint will look terrible next to them. :P
