Has anyone come out on facebook in another way than through a facebook message? I'm starting to think a status would be the most effective thing. I use a new account but when I go back and look at my friends on my old account there are so many I want to keep in touch with and it's hard to decide who to message and who not to and it would be time consuming. I've thought of doing an event but I don't know if people will see that. I'm thinking just doing a status but I don't know exactly what to say.

I messaged my closest FB friends a day before I did a general post to my FB newsfeed and changed my name/gender. It went very well, got the most likes and positive/supportive comments ever for a post. :) But then all of my friends on FB are progressive, mature and openminded people - and I have very few family members as FB friends - so I wouldn't have expected less. The response you get will say a lot about those people - if you don't like what they say I'd suggest unfriending and/or blocking them.

Thanks for sharing. I'd say 90 percent of my friends are very open minded. I already told most of my close friends and family. I just can't keep my old account. Going on and seeing my old pictures and stuff really bothers me. I made a new account and I plan to just make a status and link my new account.

I was thinking the something Phoenix633.  Starting my new life fresh, free of my old life.  I liked creating a new account and then linking to it in a status update on my old ... It allows the people who truly support you to just friend the real you.  Leaving that awkward unfriend, and "I don't want to be rude, but stay friends" thing.  But I haven't really made a decision yet.  Having that Life Event listed on my profile does feel happy.
