I'm sorry for my English but I'm from Italy, so...

I'm 18 years old and my real name is Alessandro (but I want to change my name in Chrystal).
Nobody knows that I want to be who I really am: a woman.
I'm really afraid of what my mum will think when I will tell her what I want to do. I never find a good way to talk with her about this thing.
Yesterday I wrote a letter. I wrote about how I feel, how sad I am and about how hard is to be me. But I think that she won't understand.

I know that I have a lot of time to be myself, but I also know that the earlier you start, the better it is.
I don't know what to do, I'm scared.

And now a selfie that I've just taken. "I wake up like this"?

Hi Chrystal

It's natural to be scared, we all have felt like that, some still do.

I think the first thing you need to do is get to your Dr and tell him/her about this and get them to refer you to the right specialist, psychiatrist or gender therapist, and go from there.
I like giving hugs

Hello Chrystal,

You say that nobody knows that you want to be who you really are, but it seems that you know. In my experience, knowing who you are is the most important thing.

Also, luckily for you is the fact that most mothers love their children so much that they want them to be happy more than anything in the world.

Hopefully you are on the precipice of the happiest time of your life. I told my mother with a letter, and it went really well. Letters are good. Best of luck :)

I approve, but there may be a little delay before she accept it. The best thing you can do is to ease the access to documentations so she will be able to get some informations by herself (else if you can meet a therapist, he can help you for the 'big' announcement).

I wish you the best of luck.

He... or she. My favourite therapists are of the female variety but that's merely personal preference :)

Oh, and don't be afraid to be honest and proactive and encourage your mother to be the same. Provide them with links to reputable sources to increase their understanding because.. well, understanding is what you will all require.
