my mom wants me to come out to my grandma before making a facebook post to let everyone know. what do i say? my mom said we could go out to eat and i can come out like that, and i kind of like that idea. does that sound good? im probably just going to send her an email while shes at work (i live with her btw.) how should i word it. idk what even to say. if i do come out via email should i link her to some things that could help her better understand or keep it short and sweet? should i even bother telling her my name and pronouns? shes openly very homophobic.

Hi Perrystephens

Welcome to Susan's, Coming out is quite a daunting task and even more so if you know someone is Homophobic. Personally I have a preference for face to face...kind of like ripping a band aid off really quick...it is going to probably hurt but only for a short time and if you send an e-mail she may or may not even respond. Bit harder to be nasty if she is standing in front of you...maybe not...you would know that best.

I would be honest and straight forward don't rehearse to much otherwise could sound like a speech. If you want her in your life I would tell her that.

The thing is that when you come out to people it never seems to get the reaction you expected...I wrote a 3 page letter to my brother and agonised over it for weeks...in the end his response was..."So what else you been up to apart from that"...there was a bit more to it and he was really sweet about it. I thought he was going to be my toughest but I was so wrong about that.
