My understanding about botox may be misunderstood, but has anyone had it done or had experience of getting botox to "soften" muscles in the face to help with feminization?

I assume that you're talking about the use of botox to reduce the size of the muscles on the side of the jaw?  (Masseter muscles)

Generally this is a procedure done to reduce the size of the jaw muscles in casese where there is destructive night grinding of the teeth.

The fundamentals in facial shape arise from the bone - the muscle and fat drape off the bone so to speak.  If there are prominent masseter muscles, yes, botox may help, but in most instances the effect will be limited.

The same applies for fillers (hyaluronic acid) - although they can change the shape of a face, the tendency is for it to be absorbed by the body over time.

Personally I would consider botox and fillers as adjuncts to FFS.

Bumping this thread, does anyone have any experience with botox? Especially considering how it might fit into transitioning?

I was considering non-surgical FF (Botox) as a means to make minor adjustments during the early part of HRT, knowing it would disappear after a time (roughly 12 months I believe).  My plan was to use this time to assess the impacts of HRT so I can make a more educated decision for what FFS may be needed to improve the overall appearance.  I know there are features that will definitely stop me passing immediately and also that there is a chance HRT may well help adjust those aspects of my appearance to improve my chances of looking more feminine over time (fingers crossed!).  But, as a stop-gap I thought non-surgical would be a good place to start, even if it is minor.  I.e. cheeks, lips and jawline.  I will definitely need full surgery on my nose though, it's big, broken and a clear 'man tell'!  No amount of Botox can fix that!

I have had botox in the jaw (masseter jaw reduction) and it is very good. The effects are quite subtle but my lower face is now less square than it was before. If you put you teeth together and clench you can feel the muscle at each side of the jaw which will tense up and stick out quite a lot, almost half-ball shaped. Well, mine doesn't anymore as a result of the botox, and as a result that muscle looks a lot smaller, reducing the size of the lower jaw.

You can also use botox on the upper face to raise the eyebrows slightly, which has a feminizing effect, but I've not tried that one yet.

Fillers can also be useful on the lips and cheeks in particular, but I've never tried them either. I have had fillers in the feet (a loub job), which hurt like hell, but so worth it!

I have gotten Botox and filler during the past few years for reducing facial wrinkles after recommendation by one of my female friends. I am just satisfied with them. It is not so much expensive (ca. US$100-200 per session) and I got the treatment during the lunch time. No side effect yet. Every six months I visit the dermatologist's office for get Botox treatment.

As Botox virtually does not have any side effect, you may try it at any time. After seeing the results, you may decide whether you will continue to get Botox.
