Ontario Transitioning Options

Does anybody here come from Ontario, Canada? If so, what are some resources and good people to look in to, and what's the general guideline for transitioning. I live more up North, and the support services here are Nil

The wonderful gateway to the North, North Bay actually ^.^ Wonderful city, just... very barren in its support structures

Unfortunately you may have to go to Toronto to access medical resources such an Endocrinologist, and any OHIP-covered surgery options can only be accessed through CAMH, which is also in Toronto. As for like any sort of support groups or counseling, you may be able to find something closer. Most medium-sized cities in Ontario seem to have some sort of LGBT support organization. If you have a GP I would suggest discussing transition with them as they should be able to refer you to both an Endo and to CAMH, and may be able to put you in touch with some support options as well.

I live near Barrie myself, and have found that for most medical resources you need to go to Toronto.

You'd probably guess by my username, I am from Toronto . There's a GP that actually will prescribe hormone therapy using remote conference calls. If I were you, contact the Rainbow Health Ontario. So much wealth of information and tips on how to go about your transition.

They even have a support program (it's called Gender Journeys) that happens every quarter that talks about every single aspect you need for transition i.e. how to transition at work, what's HRT and what it can do for you...

Unfortunately, I dont think it's being offered outside of the GTA.

  Somehow I never knew you were also from Toronto, April - Stupid me!  Anyway, you beat me to the punch about RHO.  They are the main go-to listing for resources and for inter-communication amongst the health care professionals in the field.  Also I highly recommend "Gender Journeys" which I attended through Sherbourne Health Centre here in Toronto.  Agreed about most access for everything being in Toronto, although support groups are springing up all over the place fast as are doctors and therapists willing to get involved.  Even so, demand is completely out-stripping supply at the moment and growing at an alarming rate as awareness spreads and transitioners identify at younger and younger ages.
