'We can't say it's fine, because it's not fine': Transgender model Lea T insists LGBT people are still being discriminated against, calls for society to 'do more'

"Transgender model Lea T has hit back at those who believe that discrimination against LGBT people no longer exists, saying there is still 'work we need to do'.

The 34-year-old, who has modeled for Givenchy and Redken, is currently on a break from modelling, but recently opened up to New York Magazine about today's existing trans issues.

As one of the first transgender models to front campaigns for major beauty brands, Lea was representing trans women long before Caitlyn Jenner appeared on the scene. "

Particularly agree with this part: The stunning brunette also said that the difference between acceptance and discrimination when it comes to trans people can come down to 'if you look beautiful or if you have money', citing her own personal experience of being complimented on her feminine figure in contrast to another transgender woman who was 'not lucky in the body'.
'We are not all the same; we don't need to have all the same prototype. In beauty, when there is a prototype, you become a slave of this icon, of this canon of beauty,' she said. 'But you need to see inside the person.'

It's strange how transwomen seem to be subjected to the same intense beauty and body policing as ciswomen (only x2!) and yet it's often seen as a positive reaction...

So do I, Peep. I'm part of a group of transgender women who are senior citizens. We are diverse and gifted and living life.

She's right about that.  I was talking to someone at work the other day about LGBT rights and he just couldn't understand what rights LGBT people wanted.  The only thing he had any idea about was the whole marriage debate, which he was against..

After I explained that in 39 US states an LGBT. person could be fired from their jobs simply for being LGBT, independent of job performance, he agreed that was unjust and should be fixed.

Most people don't know what the issues really are.  That's also going to be hard to fix because most people isolate their news and information to sources that agree with their religious and ideological views.

One of the biggest obstacles is that many people know little or nothing about transgender issues. Even some people in the LGB communities are in the dark about it. I agree with Lea T. much, more more needs to be done. I was just reading the list of transgender women killed this year and it's really sad.
