Serena-Hime

Hello there,

Nice to meet you and be a part of this forum! This place has stood out to me the most among the other forums in my searches throughout the years, so I thought I would finally make an account!

Anyway, my name is Serena, I'm 21 and I've identified as female for almost six years now. This is honestly a little strange to me for now because I don't like talking about my gender identity unless I absolutely need to, but unfortunately that's made it a little hard to get support and information when I need it.

As for the things I like? Well, I collect dolls. They're one of my biggest passions and I've been a collector since I was a tiny thing. I also ride horses, but I haven't had a horse for about a year now so I'm spending the extra funds on cultivating my doll collection.

It's lovely to finally be a member of the forum and I hope I can provide something, or more importantly learn a few things and get support.

As a side note- where would I post a thread about finding the right kind of health insurance in Florida for transition? I'm starting to feel the need to start a medical transition but unfortunately it's proving very difficult to find insurance, especially when I'm still young and pretty much on my own when it comes to this. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be lovely.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I am in Arizona so I don't have a clue what your insurance market looks like but there are a couple of things to watch out for. Almost all insurance has a deductible or what you have to pay out of pocket before the coverage for the year starts. Make sure the deductible is low enough you can afford it even if it means you have to pay more for the policy. The other thing is to read the policy before you buy it looking for the rules that apply to the type of medical care you want. All insurance companies should allow you to see a copy of the policy before you buy it and if not, look elsewhere. You may be able to do better than this but to learn how this works, look at a company like Blue Cross where all the policy information is online to review. I suspect I might be able to do better than Blue Cross but I am close to Medicare and it's not worth it for me to shop another policy. I am also unsure about gender coverage as I haven't needed it for a very long time.

Hi Dena,

Thanks for the response!

Thank you for the links- I was just reading through the pages you mentioned. I want to make sure I'm posting in the right places and using correct etiquette when posting on the forum.

I'm going to be completely honest- I live in Florida and I still don't know anything about our insurance market. I called Blue Cross but all I got was a snippy ''No, we don't cover any of that.'' It's so hard for me to find any accurate information online about Florida specifically, especially when I don't know anything about insurance!

Hi Serana,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

Glad you've taken the plunge. It's not as hard asyou thought. In answer to your question, I'd put my money on Transgender Talk. It the section that gets the biggest workout, so someone from Florida is sure to see it.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Don't trust anybody you talk to on the phone because often they don't know about this. Google "Insurance Company" of Florida and read the coverage yourself. Often they have more than one package they offer such as a minimum cheap policy and a pretty much covers everything policy. Obama care has mandated coverage of many things that weren't covered before but I am not sure about us.
