Cancer and other health risk are higher if you smoke. In addition, some surgeons have restriction for smokers. In my case, I had voice surgery and the results may not be as good if you are or were a smoker. Healing after surgery is another consideration. It's just a good idea to quit before your transition so you can have a long, happy life.

It would be best to ask your doctor.  I know smoking while taking estrogen increases the risk of getting a blood clot which could lead to pulmonary embolism, stroke or heart attack.  Also increases the risk of cancers.

Just, like, in general it's not a good idea to smoke. There are some specific risks to trans people during hormone treatment, but even if there weren't, it isn't worth it.

Look into Vaping. I know some people that used it to quit smoking. Its reported to be 95% safer than smoking with no carcinogens. You can drop the nicotine gradually down to zero. While I had never smoked, I started vaping without any nicotine at all. I found it to be relaxing and I'm pretty sure it doesn't cause any risks. I used to have a twitch in my eye. It went away after a few days of vaping.

Unvarnished answer - yes.  (BTW: no judgement is made regarding your behavior here.)

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Take good care,

I'm told it's not wise to smoke while on T because both have effects on the pulmonary system. Birth control pills containing synthetic estrogens warn of higher risks with clots and smoking does nothing kind to your veins either.
