Because according to right wing American religious ideology it is simply an aberrant mental illness and behaviour that threatens common decency and should be treated like any other mental illness - medical intervention to correct an wrong perception of reality (much like schizophrenia).

Because the money that lgbt groups bring has been primarily the G and for marrige.
