My skin is driving me crazy.

Hi ladies,

I've been on hormone therapy just over 13 months now, although for the first 6 my gp slowly increased my medications to therapeutic levels monitoring my hormone values with monthly blood tests. I take an oral oestrogen and spironolactone.

Things are humming along nicely, breasts are developing, my hairline has sprouted some welcome baby hairs, my feet have actually shrunk half a shoe size, my waist is now narrower than my hips and my fingernails which were at one point clubbed are now very much improved. All in all I shouldn't complain.

BUT...

Whilst the skin on my torso, arms and legs has softened delightfully the skin on my face has yet to impress me. I'm holding out for that magic moment and it's really depressing to me.

Did anyone else here have the same experience only to find your face catching up with your body? I know I should exercise patience but I feel I need to explore my options if this is what I'm stuck with.

Thanks girls and happy Samhain!

Georgia, if you're into putting oils on your face, I happen to use jojoba oil.

Australian Jojoba Oil- I find that my skin absorbs it very, very fast, and the result is a glowing, smooth, and youthful complexion. Everyone reacts a little differently to it, but I find that jojoba oil doesn't cause break outs for me or those that referred me to it.

After I cleanse my t-zone, I dab a drop or two of jojoba oil under my eyes, against my cheeks, on and above my lips, on my chin, and some on my forehead. Just dab until dry, and it doesn't take a while. The skin will absorb it on its own.

I put it on at every night and let the magic happen! I really do wake up to baby soft skin, and it makes me feel good in the morning because, I can safely say, I'm not a great morning person.

I will admit though, I'm not a fan of the price, but I do like what it does for me.

I've found that argan oil works very well on my face and hair.  It comes in a spray bottle so it's really easy and fast to apply.  It also is absorbed quickly without any oily feeling

Thank you Deborah and Orchid for your advice, I'll certainly give either or both a try although I think I'm going to need some less superficial intervention. I'm really feeling that I won't be satisfied with my skin unless I have some laser resurfacing, fraxel or possibly a chemical peel.

Having thicker and well-moisturized skin makes a huge difference in passing but what most people don't realize is that you need to moisturize from inside out. Get on these supplements: Vitamin C (builds collagen), BioSil (generates collagen using your own DNA), hyaluronic acid (retains water in your skin), fish oil, flax oil, vitamin E, vitamin A, etc. Avoid coffee, drink nothing but water and plain tea, moisturize on the outside too but no fragrance in your creams, and sleep with a humidifer every night. Applying coconut oil before makeup helps makeup look dewy too.

Totally agree with Christina on this one, especially as you're on Spiro as that's most likely going to be causing your body to get rid of a lot of fluid.

You may also want to have a look at your electrolyte levels, as the Spiro may cause them to be lower than they should be due to all the peeing.

But, in general, definitely make sure you're eating well, exercising, looking after yourself, not smoking, etc, and that'll show in your skin, and everywhere else.

Exactly! Spiro already makes you pee you so that's why I say to avoid coffee as it also makes you pee. No fluids in the body = dehydration = wrinkled, dried up skin.
