How do you change your gender marker on your license in Minnesota? like I've seen the post by the DMV on how to do it but it says to get one of three certain papers. It also says if you can't get those papers to send 10$ and a variance request to a certain address. Well my question is how do I go about changing my gender marker if I do have one of those papers? do I send it to that address or what?

The criteria basically amount to two things, and two kinds of people who are considered qualified by our state to make such a change. Those being judges, and medical doctors.

The "variance" is basically just a token nod at the right to appeal. It gives you somebody who will review your case, but I can promise from personal experience that without those judge or doctor documents to satisfy the first "three" requirements (really it's two, one is gender change, two is gender+name change), they aren't going to give a damn.

To more accurately answer the question when you DO have the papers, you have to send them directly to the capital in St. Paul. You can't do it in person at your local DMV.

Do I send it to the same address? Do I fill out a form or anything that tells them my driver's license number or anything? Do I still pay 10$? I already have the only paper I need: the one from my doctor.

If you have judge/doctor papers, you should not need the $10 from what I understand of the process. That's for the variance, when you want a dispute without the requirements.

Send it to the St. Paul address, not your local county address. Counties in MN aren't currently equipped to handle that at all, and any questions you ask are going to be directed to the capital anyway. If they do demand a $10 fee, they will be the ones to let you know.

Your local office isn't going to know what to even do, unless your local office is Ramsey county of course.
