BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The unique needs of transgender students were the focus of a recent conference at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Some advocates say similar programs are becoming common on campuses nationwide as issues facing the transgender community gain broader attention.

The two-day conference last week was focused on cultural competency and ensuring student success, said UAB Executive Director of Student Health and Wellness Jacob Baggott.

wow, it's good to see colleges doing this, hopefully see more of this at more schools, not just colleges in future very soon
You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.

That is a hugh step step for the University of Alabama. However it is sad that it has taken until 2015. Hopefully they will continue to catch up with the real world. There is no reason why the can't do it

All I can say is ROLL TIDE!   ;D

Actually I would like to add that this a huge step forward for Bama and other univeriies that will follow suit.  While a community in and of ourselves, we are also part of the entire community.  We're making our stand and it is only going to go farther.

Two school admissions staff I have spoken to about earning my doctorate stated that their respective schools were very trans-friendly; one of them in particular is really working on me attending her school as the majority of the school is female.

The State of Alabama still has a way to go though in regard to recognizing us; they will eventually.

Be safe

Marlo
