Hi All,

The lady who has been taking care of my hair colouring & style has recently taken up a regular 9-5 & is now only styling on Saturdays.

Does anyone know of a Trans-Knowledgeable hair stylist in Philadelphia ?   (Preferably near NE Philly.)

When I say "Trans-Knowledgeable", I mean someone who knows how to cut & style my hair to de-emphasize my more masculine features (eg: forehead, hairline, etc.).

I have discovered that Trans-Friendly does automatically not mean Trans-Knowledgeable.  Eg:  Straight hair looks great on most girls.  On me it really brought out the shape of my forehead.   :embarrassed:   /sigh

I need to maintain enough length to be able to tie my hair back into a ponytail when wearing my man-costume for work.  Even if I do socially transition at work, I would still want to avail of the comfort of a ponytail.

My current gender presentation status is that I present as female at home & in my social life, & as male at work & with family from Ireland.  Should my work evolve to just sitting at a desk instead of often rerouting cabling under desks, then the absence of a suitable male wardrobe is likely to hasten a female presentation at work.  I rarely meet family from back home, mostly just Skype with my parents.

TY for any suggestions.

Be well,

Tessa

Hair styles are trial and error. There are many cuts available online that you can look at and when you find one, bring it to your cutter and they will cut to your instructions. Only you know what you will be comfortable with.  After getting the cut a few times your cutter will be able to repeat it on request.

In my case, I found the basic cut I wanted and am modifying it to better work with the look I am after. My hair is mostly the right length now and I just need small adjustments to get the look I am after.

Never expect your cutter to pick the right style for you. I let that happen once and got scalped.
