The Huffington Post/Brynn Tannehill Become a fan Director of Advocacy, SPARTA

"Tuesday's defeat of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) highlights several conclusions that the LGBT movement needs to take to heart for the next decade or so. Foremost is that we will not win transgender issues directly at the ballot box, or in the gerrymandered republican legislatures which dominate the political landscape."

I have mixed feelings about this. Tannehill is right, that we're not going to win these referendums with the current level of knowledge among the public.

But I disagree that educating the public is a "fool's errand" as she puts it. We NEED people to understand why we do what we do. Acceptance will not come without it.
