"A question I get asked a lot is if Dana gets upset if someone slips and makes a mistake when addressing her. Does she get upset if someone accidentally calls her Rick rather than Dana or uses he or him instead of she or her?"

For me, I expect my friends to apologize quickly when they slip up. Once the do, the slip-up is forgiven and forgotten.

Bothers me more when someone who never knew me as a "he" slips up, because it means they clocked me and then decided I was male. I'm still not sure how to deal with that gracefully.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I wish my friends would just apologize and move on when they slip. Instead, many of them make excuses -- they know they screwed up, but they want to justify it instead of just saying "sorry" and trying harder next time. I love these people, but it's getting really old.
