So Ive been on hormones for about 4 months now. Had some hair loss mostly on the temples before starting HRT. Not to much but enough to be a problem. I also started using rogain around that time, but now Im giving in and looking at maybe getting implants or having my hairline reshaped. Dont really know which would be better for me. Everything Ive looked at for comparison is much more severe hair loss than I have. Haven't done any consultations or anything, mostly because of the distance Id need to travel just to talk to somebody about it. So Im turning to you all for your opinion on the matter. Ive attached a picture of how it was before I started HRT (not my picture but hair line is the same). Basically looking for what the basic cost of each option would be as well as which would be better to go with. Any body who has had similar hair loss in their past I would tremendously appreciate your opinion. Thanks much :)

Have you seen any regrowth in your temple area? I've been on HRT about the same time as you and my hair loss was worse than you describe (your picture isn't working), and the amount of blonde vellus hairs that have appeared is simple astonishing - many of which are developing into proper regrowth.

Estradiol / Anti-Androgen / Finasteride combinations have the potential to resolve your issue without resorting to transplants, but it requires some patience.

If you don't want to wait, many leading transplant surgeons have a patient coordinator who will be happy to discuss things with you via Email if you send them pictures - no travel involved.

Ive been or hrt for four months. Spiro, Estradoil and progesterone. I have had very good regrowth. The kind were Im wouldnt need transplants at all, Just blonde vellus hair, but has started to darken out now too and is almost an inch long. Problem is that I started using rogain when I started hormones. So I dont know if the regrowth is from hormones, rogain or a combination of the two. And I like the regrowth so Im kind of afraid to stop using the rogain. Id like to not use rogain if possible, just dont want to loose the hair lol

Sorry about the picture. Cant quite figure that part out yet. So Il try to describe it better. The hair in the center hasnt receded but it was thinning out. The temples on the sides receded about 2 inches in and about and 2 inches wide for each side. The regrowth has refilled with a little more than an inch and a half for each side and has filled in all the width that was lost. Current hair line is what is usual for a 25 year old who isnt loosing their hair.

Have you tried doing the Rogaine a little less at a time and checking for a tangible result? I think HRT usually takes about 9 months to a year to even out into a steady safe and moderated dose, at that point you might not need the Rogaine any more. I'd say time was your friend, and the scientific approach and maybe a dermatologist might be better able to answer your questions. Also, there's an infrared laser therapy thing that might be able to thicken your hair or stimulate blood flow in your scalp.

I use the Rogain only once a day instead of twice. And only half the amount that Im supposed to. I going to try going with out it for a month and see what happens. Havent heard of the infrared laser thing. Il look into that, thanks :)

I know people who have gone with reshaping and hair plugs. The results are amazing. Reshaping is painfully hard and difficult. The plugs, less so. Reshaping leaves some scarring. Plugs don't. But don't take my word on this. I encourage you to talk to a hair specialist to see if it is in the cards for you. And I strongly suggest that you give your HRT a little time to catch up to you. Your hair growth patterns may change.

I had hair transplants to fill my temples and I am very happy. It was one of my best decisions. I have some regrowth but without transplants the hair would not be dense enough.

Finasterid and Regain did not brought me much regrowth. Since switching to Estradiol IM and the results are astounishing compared to pills or patches to me.

Didn't see the picture but I had FUT a couple years ago.

I didn't have a lot of hair loss but I had a square hairline that was bugging me as I saw all the women out there who had more rounded hairlines. It made me uncomfortable to pull my hair back off my face.

After the op, I feel great, it looks perfectly natural. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in that.

The doctor I went to was Dr. Gabel in Portland, OR. SO WORTH IT. PM me if you want more details.
