Princeton school board considers policy change for transgender students

Seems pretty routine except the part where staff are not permitted to divulge a student's gender issues to their parents.

That's pretty radical. That's kind of a sacred principle in school systems: We work for the parents and our number one commandment is to keep parents informed about what is going on with their child.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. If I were a kid with conservative, abusive parents, I would be relieved if I could talk to a school counselor without it getting back to my parents. But as a parent, I'd want to know if my kid were having gender issues (or any other secret eating at their soul). In any other place besides Princeton, it would probably be very controversial, but my hometown tends to like to be out in front of social movements.
