So, binder works, voice doesn't

Had an interesting encounter on my way back from my lecture. A man stopped me in the street to ask for directions. Mid way through our little interlude, he suddenly asked if I were a man or a woman. I said I'm a man. He looked me up and down (searching for breasts, I presume) and then told me that I sound like a woman. Then he asked if I was a lesbian. I again said that I'm a man. He then commented on the unlikelihood of my having children (he has four) and wandered off.

So apart from the relatively (from my point of view) surrealistic nature of this conversation, I've discovered two things. First, the binder really is working to squash my chest flat (yay!). Second, my voice is a giveaway, even with all the efforts to lower it (not so yay).

S'okay. Just gotta be patient.

Wow, some people are exceptionally rude. Ive had a guy push me over in the checkout line at the grocery store before "looking for a pack of gum" (even though there were many aisles without people in them). He tried to talk to me and said, "Is it ma'am or sir?" UH, IT'S CHOOSE ANOTHER LANE, ->-bleeped-<-. It seemed like he wanted to interact with me to find out my gender and report back to his woman waiting at the end.

I usually end up in the same boat with my voice. People usually gender me as male when they look at me, and then try to correct themselves when I start talking. I confused the heck out of an older man before. He kept calling me sir, then slipped up and said ma'am, and was like, "Are you a boy or a girl? You look like a guy but you have a girl's vojce" (he did it in the most polite way possible for saying such a rude thing, so I just took it as a compliment on mylooks and went wigh it).

My voice is my biggest issue I have with myself. I like to talk but constantly hold back from saying things a lot of times so I dont have to hear my voice...

Sorry my writing is a horrid mess. My tablet doesn't do the keyboard thing very well.

You could have a look here:
http://www.nyspeechandvoicelab.net/transgender/voice-masculinization/

You might try to speak more monotone... with far few less ups and downs...
maybe a bit slower, and with more direct language... you might listen to male people speaking...

I know you were probably annoyed (and I would've been in that situation too), but his line of questioning is almost comical. What difference does it make to him what gender you are?

It may be a combination of your voice and the way that you're speaking. I recommend recording yourself having normal conversations throughout the day to see.

T will help as well, so if you're already heading down that road, I wouldn't let it bother you too much.

Actually, weird as it was, I wasn't annoyed. Mainly because the whole thing was so ridiculous. lol.
