Some nights at work there's a lot of down time, and some of us read on our Kindles or use our iPads for whatever. The hospital has Wi-Fi, and if you use the hospital Wi-Fi on whatever device you're using, some sites are still blocked, just like if you were using the hospital computer.

Usually I read on my Kindle, but on nights when a certain other nurse is there, I don't even try, because she is always talking to me, so I usually just browse Facebook and Twitter on my iPad on those nights. The other night, I decided to try to pull up another trans site on my iPad's Safari browser, figuring it would be blocked. It came up, and I guess I said, "Oh wow" out loud, cause that nurse said, "What?" and looked over my shoulder. And without even thinking, I said, "Oh, it's a transgender site. I just figured the network would block it." I instantly realized what I said, and thought "Oh crap" to myself. But she just said "Yeah, it's surprising some of the stuff the network lets you see and what it blocks," and turned around and went back to her own browsing. That was it. And I probably said it loud enough that the other nurses at the nurses station could hear it, although I don't even remember now how many people were sitting there. And nothing. No comments, no nothing. So either nobody cares, or they're just talking about me behind my back. Could be either, knowing how nurses love to gossip.
Goodbye, birth name. Hello, Joel.

Middle of last summer Susan was able to appeal a decision that initially declared this site to be obscene and had it reclassified as a medical information site. This is one of the reasons why the moderators do such a careful job of keeping the site squeaky clean. This change resulted in an update to the white list used by internet providers and others to check for blocked web sites and emails. I know almost to the day when this happened because suddenly I was receiving email notifications from Susan's that were blocked before. In order for me to get into the site in the first place I had to have chat authorize my account because I couldn't receive the email Susan's sent for verification of my account.

It happens sometimes when we least expect it. I had to take my mom to the hospital one day and hadn't done my hormone injection yet so I brought everything with me to do it there. I hadn't said a thing about it, but the fact she saw me do it had outed me and the fact I eventually corrected the gender she accidentally used in my direction confirmed that it had outed me. Turned it into an experience to teach the nurse who to handle situations like those. Hugs

Early on in my transition I outed myself to two of the neighbors.  I had dressed to go to therapy and on the way home (it was dark) I noticed two of the neighbor ladies standing in my driveway. So around the block I go and they were still there!

I did another turn around the block and they were gone (so it seemed).  So I pulled into the driveway and got out and they they were waiting to greet me!  They had stepped out of the drive way and were momentarily out of my sight lane.

Well, we talked . . . OMG!  I was caught and knew by morning I'd be out to the whole neighborhood, ekkk!  The very next day my ex asked me to move out very firmly.  I did move in about two weeks and that evening became one of those unforeseen milestones.

BTW:  We had a really nice chat and I nearly peed my panties when I finally go into the house.
