Prednisone

Another thread... I know, I know, and I'm sorry- I'm just being very unsure about taking medication and more medication.

So, I'm on the route of medrol (prednisone). I'm wondering if it's okay to take estradiol and spironolactone- I feel uncomfortable about it, because my dentist hasn't informed me of any possible reactions. I'm wondering if anyone had any experience and has dealt with the same circumstances as me, so I can navigate this a bit more calm.

On my own I decided not to take my hormones for the time being, at least for three days, while my dose for prednisone is at it's max. I will drop to three times a day on the third day, which drops by one every day, until my 6th day. I'm just afraid that my progress for the next two days from hrt will be halted and reversed- I'm really really uneasy about it.

Hopefully you won't have to hear another recurring fear of mine in another thread. I appreciate everyone's feedback!

If it's a prescription you're going to be given to fill, you can always ask your pharmacist. It's kinda what they do... drug interaction analysis. And they're generally aware of what you're already taking. If it's coming from the dentist's office, you can call your primary care provider. I'm certain they'd have no trouble telling you one way or another.

Pharmacists specialize in this.  You can walk to any pharmacy and ask.  I've always found pharmacists to be eager to provide free (!!) help, and with a few notable exceptions, very well-informed.

I'm laughing right now, just because I've never thought about it! I think it's the fear of someone reading in and then not being particularly fond of my life choices, which would then cause me to find another pharmacist and... Go through the experience again. This is the malice that my head puts me through. Sigh.

Anyway, I did in the end, and I'm happy with what I was told. My compulsiveness tells me to get another verifying opinion but I am satisfied with it. They've had people on hormones and on the antibiotics/anti-inflammatory steroids at the same time with no interactions, it's safe to use.

The only  thing that scared me was the fact that medrol is prednisone, in turn a steroid. I was just... Oi. But, if it's fine, then it's fine. (:

 I may be on Prednisone soon for my CIDP symptoms. Good to know that information. Prednisone, a corticoid steroid anti-inflammatory was the first oral corticoid that came out in the early 1950's. The first test done with that were on the CIDP patients according to a white paper I found. CIDP is a rare autoimmune disorder, a type of neuropathy related to Guillain-Barre Syndrome. It is nasty.

Joelene, please talk to a pharmacist.  Don't take advice about drug interactions that you get here, even if it ostensibly came from a pharmacist.  No reason not to believe Orchid, but Orchid's medical situation is different from your own, and advice suitable for her may not be suitable for you

^ I agree completely- it's nice to hear validation to put some fears to rest, but it's always good to check with a pharmacist, healthcare provider, essentially someone who can answer your questions with only your circumstances in mind.

I have. No interactions due to both are hormones your body makes anyway. Prednisone prescription will trump my HRT if there were any interactions as my current condition could be life threatening. This condition had disrupted my life the past 35 years without proper diagnoses. The affected areas have permanent nerve damage.
