Also, until the 3-month mark I had to disinfect my dilators thoroughly before and after every session. It's hard to do that with a penis - they're not built to stand up to the sort of disinfection that plastic or even fingers can handle - and organic body parts are naturally covered in bacteria. (Especially ones used for excretion.) That's normal and fine, but a bad idea in recent surgical site. And since infection is a REALLY significant problem when there's a) serious incisions and b) a channel basically directly into the body, the surgeons want to be super cautious about keeping things as clean as possible.
Yes, the exterior vulva is also involved in excretion and hard to disinfect and that can't be helped, but they want to avoid the risks that *can* be avoided.
