Dr. Toby Meltzer requiring therapist letter for FFS

I did not realize this until after I had already paid my non-refundable deposit and was reading the forms they e-mailed me. Is this standard now for all FFS doctors? Fortunately, I am seeing a therapist now who can hopefully write the letter, but she is more of a general therapist although we do, of course, talk about my gender identity disorder in sessions.

Would generally a diagnosis of gender disphoria be enough ?

Letters addresses two points. That you are informed of what the risks of the procedure are including what you will do if you detransition  and that you are capable of making the decision. The letter is not making the decision for you. If your therapist knows you well and you have discussed this in detail, you therapist should be able to write the letter.

Dr. Spiegel did not require a letter for FFS. I went to Boston for the consultation which cost $150. 20% deposit upon scheduling the FFS procedures. I went to Boston in January and they were scheduling in May. When I scheduled in February I got the first open spot in September.

Dr. McGinn required 2 letters before a consultation would be scheduled and $150 for the consultation ( I consulted with her for FFS and GCS). She has the specifics on her web site for the letter. Scheduling was a matter of an open spot and a 10% deposit for GCS. I had to wait to 11/13/16 due to the RLE requirement and she had 11/15/16 open.

Both doctors require 100% paid in full prior to the operation. Both doctors credit the consultation fee if you schedule the procedure with them.
