I started hrt at 18 years old, 21 years ago.  Through hrt alone I achieved a great deal of softness to my face.  Yet my my chin was very square and my jaw somewhat heavy, but the rest of my face was fine.

In 2004 I had the squareness to my chin filed down by Dr. Z in Chicago.  He didn't do a bad job but it was a little uneven.  Passing wasn't an issue, but the unevenness always bothered me.

In February 2015 I decided to have it fixed.  I choose Dr. Spiegel in Boston, I choose him because he has been known for his subtle approach, I didn't want to change my face, just a little refinement and to even out my chin.

Nine and half months later I absolutely hate the results.  He was able to make it even, but too much was taken off and now my jaw and chin are honestly too small.  I told him I didn't want a pointy chin, yet that's what I got.  The angle of the jaw is too high, and honestly shaper then before.

This year dealing with the results has caused me a great deal of depression.  The results are not to my liking, nor to anyone I know.  I haven't wanted to see people or even leave the house.

Has anyone else had results with chin and jaw surgery where they felt they were too small, and weak looking?  I am not sure what to do.  If I should seek a Maxillofacial surgeon and look into a custom implant, or bone paste to fill it in.

Hi, sorry you're not happy with your results, and hopefully you can find a way to resolve the problems you are having. Have you asked Dr. Spiegel if he can correct it?

I had chin and jaw surgery with Dr. Z, 3 months ago, and I am still very swollen, so at this point I don't know if I will have a good result or not, but it does appear that he took a bit more off of the right side of my jaw than the left side; and there are some other issues that I'm not happy about right now either.  I should have a better idea of what my final results will look like in 3 more months, and if need be, I'll have Dr. Z do a revision, which he offers for no additional cost (facility and anesthesia included).

Hi Danielle,

So sorry to hear this news.

Yes go back to Dr Spiegel and see what he says.

Facial surgery is such a risky business as many of us know only too well.

Sorry that you have had to deal with a result you hate. I would contact a different dr that specializes in the jaw implants. Dr.Grossman in Denver does the facial implants. They have doctors that do fillers for the jaw to which is less expensive. For me personally I'm getting the jaw surgery from Dr.Z and I actually would prefer the small jaw look I think it brings out the eyes and cheekbones looks feminine, if that picture is post op I think you look fine! But everyone has different preferences and everyone is more comfortable in different ways but just my advice.

Doesn't Dr.Spiegel have a satisfaction guarantee?

Starting transition 21 years ago, I have been under the knife many times.  On both my face and my body.  In all surgeries I have ever had this has been the most displeasing.  Not only the result, but the doctor and his staff.

I went to see Dr. Spiegel 3 weeks ago about being unhappy with the outcome of his surgery.  He came in the room with 2 of his resident students.  A room roughly 6x8 the 4 of us met.  He quickly looked me over, and abruptly cut me off and stated I am still healing, even at 9 1/2 months.

I asked him about these two dents on either side of my chin, that I didn't have before nor do I like.  They make it look very sharp and the chin come to this little point.  This is my biggest concern, as it really doesn't look good.

He said he could fill them with a fat graft in the office, and Katie his office assistant would be in shortly to set something up, and rushed out of the room.  I took it that he didn't want me questioning his surgery in front of his students.

A few minutes later Katie walked in and handed me an estimate of $3500 for a fat transfer.  I said what!  I told her I thought revisions were something covered.  I was astounded.  It has nothing to do with the money, and everything to do with that this showed me he could truly care less and yet this was someone I trusted to work on my face.

She told me she would speak with him and email or call me, 3 weeks have gone by and I have yet to hear a word.

The attitude I got from the doctor and his staff were that they were paid, and best of luck to me.  So the free revision thing he states, someone must really have to put up a stink.  This has left me with a total distaste, I wouldn't go back there if got new Mercedes along with allowing him to touch my face.

Yes I could put up a stink and get him to revise it, but do I truly want someone touching my face that couldn't care less, I will go elsewhere.

I am off to seeking a Maxillofacial surgeon skilled in revision work.  I will pay the extra money, I want someone who really cares about his patients and the outcome of his surgery.

My profile photo is pre-op btw, someone asked if this was my post result.

Hi Danielle,

I really feel for you.

Your story s**ks ...  >:(

During my many trips to the States and attending various Be-All TG conventions in Chicago, I met some Spiegel patients who were not happy with his work.

I was also told that he even has trainee doctors assisting him during surgery which is not what you pay for.

A friend of mine from Albuquerque NM had her chin done by him and is not at all happy with the result and I have suggested she skypes Facial Team in Spain who are carrying out my forehead corrective surgery next April.

May I suggest you also do the same as it will not do any harm.

Thanks Paula for your kind response.  I think I am not going to seek any ffs surgeon, I feel at this point I need a custom implant to even things out.  So I am seeking a Maxillofacial surgeon who does a custom implant made by a ct-scan.

What really bothers me, is I was 100 percent passable, very pretty, and I feel he messed up my face and could truly care less.

Hi Danielle,

You are welcome.

Still worth a skype for a second opinion but I will leave that decision with you.

I know all about the face being messed up and it's so sad that we put our trust and pay hard to come by money to finish up with poor or bad results.

Let us know how you get on, OK.

Hugs

Paula

Dr. Z really didn't do a bad job on my chin the first time, but it was a little uneven and it bothered me, with having to get regular injections of Botox and filler to even it out.  Dr. Speigel was close and has had a reputation of being less invasive, so I thought it was a good choice.  Let's hope 3rd time is a charm.  I am sorry you didn't have good results with Dr. Z.  I remember meeting you all them years back in 2004.

Yes I hope that you get this sorted out once and for all.

It's a shame that I am having to have more surgery like you need to and that is putting it mildly ... :o

It's a pain in the butt to say the very least.

Yes I remember us meeting, neat eh?

Two of my best friends live in the USA as a result of having surgery with Dr Z, so it's not all bad ...   ;)

Hugs
