Hi all ,

I am trans military veteran using the VA for my medical care. I recently moved to another state and transferred my information to my current state. They gave me a appointment for Dec 17th for primary care.

However, I ran out of estradiol pills and they won't give me any more until my appointment. My old doctors automatically sent the last refill to my old address. So really all I have is spiro.

Any idea what to do? Should I take spiro only? Self-med? I want to avoid starving my body.

Thanks,

Alexis <3

[Ok, I was worried it would affect me.

Do you think I should keep taking spiro then? I take () ]

I'd say call your doctor or the nurse. I don't see a problem with that though , but I'm not a medical person. I've rotated off estrogen once in a while for a week or a little more, but I kept taking spiro. I stopped both for a week for an operation.

Don't worry about it..if you ever have surgery you will have to do the same. I ran out for two weeks or so once, got mood swings and tiredness..That's all.

You may as well stay on the spiro; the risks of being without sex hormones long-term is REALLY long-term, like years. Though if you're concerned, it should be possible to call and ask the doctor what to do even before your appointment.

I went off HRT for 4 weeks before and after surgery. It was annoying as heck and some temporary masculine things came back (smell, that stupid thing down there revived, etc.) but nothing permanent happened. :)

Hello

I wouldn't worry about it. Two weeks won't do much except for maybe some mood swings. I was off for 2 weeks before i had SRS and my friend dog tried to bite me. so I looked at the dog and GROWL back at him and he ran behind the door. LOL

Saki:

Can your old issuer not recover the mis-directed prescription?  It also seems peculiar that your new location refuses to issue an interim prescription.  Maybe ask another doctor or ask to speak to a supervisor or VA pharmacist to tide you over these next two weeks.  The pharmacist will also provide that professional answer you need regarding other elements in your ERT 'cocktail'.  Someone should be available today to call or visit.

I once worried, then learned my worries were for naught, when I endured periods off meds.  I understand your nervousness, too.  I had times pre-op for longer than a couple weeks; I have been off meds for as long as 13 months post-op.  I went with the flow and did fine.  Little will happen off meds short-term.

You can make a quick study of phyto-estrogen and learn how they work.  Know that some people respond well, others not so well, others not at all.  Common foods we eat contain traces of phyto-estrogen.  It is also an element in various herbs, spices, and teas.  Again, maybe two weeks is a short time for now to learn enough about phyto-e, so plan ahead for any future time.

As others also comment, when you go peri-op, your surgeon requires you to go off meds for perhaps one month in advance and not resume for another month afterwards.  So in that scheme of things, two weeks will be a breeze.

I hope our cheer-leading will ease your mind.
