Is it normal to feel tired the first few days after starting hrt?

April_TO

It is normal as your primary source of extra energy comes from T so reducing it will definitely make you somewhat weak and tired. However, as your body gets used to it - you'll be fine within the next couple of days. Just rest and stay healthy.

This is happening to me as well. Yesterday I slept earlier due to feeling very tired.

Today I'm feeling better but still a little slow.  I'm sure it will pass within a week like April said!

Oh boy. I remember when I first started HRT I slept for like 12-16 hours a day the first week and had a hard time getting out of bed! Also I was peeing for what seemed non-stop. It got to the point where I was extremely worried that I would have to stop HRT because I thought the fatigue (and constant peeing) would never go away. I remember thinking to myself "well, there goes any chance of transitioning..." The fatigue went away after the first week though, so I'll go ahead and say you will be fine!

Congrats on starting HRT! Same to SofiN! :)

I was "run down" for about two weeks after starting, then the energy levels started coming back towards normal.  I would think you should be back to a near norm after 3 weeks or so.

You started HRT like what? 4 days ago?

I think your body is reacting to your new hormone regimen. This is causing inflammation. Sometimes having hard lump means you are fighting a disease. In your case you are adaptating to estrogen   There is not only lumps behind your nipples, you have them at many place on your body. For exemple, there is lump behind your armpit ,  You will feel it when you will get breast growth spurt.

Really at 4 days in i wouldnt worry of not having breast buds .  Somes dont get them until 3 month.

Be happy things are happening =)

Hi Angélique

OMG YES I remember all to well I got burned out fast and called my Doctor and she laughed. After a week or two you will get back to normal. This won't happen every time they increase or decrease you hormones after. Once they get them balanced you will be fine.

Big Hugs

estrogen induces changes in serotonin transmission, binding, receptor-density and metabolism in the brain

In English that means zzzZZZzzzz you get sleepy-er!

Angélique:

Is this your first time on ERT?

Depending upon your dose, tired may be the least of your experiences.  I was ill:  fits, queasy, heaves, vomiting.

I was frequently ill while still presenting as male in some parts of my life and that must have thrown some observers for a loop.  Later when I was full-time female experiencing that same illness was when I got an explanation of it.  Female co-workers not knowing my story but recognising the symptoms approached me and asked un-solicited pregnancy-related questions to me:

     -  'Is this your first?'

     -  'Which do you want - a boy or a girl?'

     -  'When are you due?'

That illness was 'morning sickness' same as any pregnant female gets when her hormones go on overload.

Another consequence of 'morning sickness' were night-time dreams experiencing stages of pregnancy.

All that came courtesy of those little pills.

I just find it strange that I'm seeing results in just 5 days. Now both breast lymph nodes r swollen n hurting.

I was tired and getting lots of sleep the first couple of weeks. Then it rebounded quickly and my energy level increased to over the level it was before blocking T.

I also felt breast changes very quickly

On my HRT regime, it was a real roller coaster. Until they figured out my dosages, gonadectomy ((Ouch) I was tired, then be awake for 2 days, eat a ton of food then not be hungry. My GF Vikki joked that she would have me committed.
At 1st my T levels would go down even tho I was on HRT. Then they increased my dosage & my skin on my hands & feet peeled. So they took me off for a few weeks then tested me. It was decided to do a gonadectomy. It took 10 days to get an appt. Then after a few weeks they tested me & I was finally put on some sort of HRT shots, patches. Then the fun started. Chest itching, sleeplessness. Lucky I didn't work & the medical research lab Vikki works at did my HRT. they did it for payment because I was testing some Meds. In Apr '16 I will be a girl. Have had my final apt & they showed me what they are going to do to me.  Then a bit of healing & Vikki says she's going to help me test drive my new body.  :embarrassed:

I didn't really sleep more but I did end up having irregular sleep patterns which later evened out.

For a few months after increasing my spiro dose I was drowsy a lot because it lowered my blood pressure quite a bit. Now I take it before bed so I don't notice it but I may have adapted as well by now.
