Wow i havent slept at all last night because i was to stressed.  I decided to see my HR and to tell her about my case.   I said this: I am a little embarrassed to tell it but i am transexual..   The first thing she did is smiling and said : So what? this doesnt matter.  We allready have a transmen at the office and people are just fine with him. Do you want me to help you  talk about it with your supervisor? Maybe you didnt know but he is homosexual and very open-minded. Have you asked for your legal name change so i can change it in the system?  Are you ready to come in dress, wear a wig and makeup at the office . Do you prefer using the ladies or men washroom?

That went sooo smooth and good wow... :)

I am waiting for my supervisor to get back to me now.

Wow, that was amazing! If only coming out to family and friends would merit the same response...

Why would HR out a fellow employee? Otherwise, congratulations on getting past a very important hurdle.

Oh, OK. it was you quoting HR as saying, "Maybe you didn't know" that caught my attention. I'll just slink back into obscurity.  :)

Wow your HR sounds awesome!!! My HR had the same, "so what?" attitude to it. They said it's no big deal at all and the HR director said she knew one one Trans woman who transitioned during her tenure. Truth be told there are a few of us here. There are also gay and lesbian employees (it's New York after all).

Update:
My 2 supervisors made me come to their desk to have a talk about it.
They told me that they are going to fully support me on my transition and that no discrimination will be tolerated. They admire my courage. We started to plan things together.  Next week they are going to introduce it to supervisors of other service, on wednesday they have set a lunch with my close team so i can announce to them before the others . Then on friday they will give me sick leave and they will announce it to people concerned. Why on next friday? Christmas vacations for 2 week then on january 1st 2016 i am going back to work but as a woman.

Congratulations! I just came out to my boss and HR as well and they both had similar reactions. Still haven't told my coworkers I'm also kind of aiming for a January 1st as well.

Seeing all these stories about people coming out at work and experiencing nothing but smooth, accepting reactions makes me feel so happy! Could it be possible? Is society actually heading towards acceptance of trans people like it has reached acceptance for gay people?

Nice! Glad it went smoothly. I'm still nervous about having to do such a thing. I'm not sure if I should tell them and be open about it or not when I seek work. I haven't had to deal with the situation yet due to my father helping me transition first. Yup I said my dad and he's doing it alone lol. My mother has never been there for me so my dad raised his family as a single parent. He's been difficult but he's a good father and hes been getting use to the idea of me transitioning mtf. I had to tell him off a few times until he got it through his head that I was being serious. Lol. If anyone has any advice for me at all that'd be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations. :)  One more step down, plenty to go!  I had an experience earlier today.  I wear rubber padded cut resistant gloves for the work I do so when I went to adjust my safety glasses I pulled a lot of hair by accident, cringed, and proceeded to remove the hard hat, hoody, glasses, and all that to fix it all.

The lady (coworker, lesbian, great gal) across from me said, "Geeze, all that hair.  Why are you growing it out?"  I responded with, "To keep my ass warm!" (it's pretty cold where we are).  She replies, "But that's not your butt."  And I said, "You sure?!"  We laughed.  Few minutes later I said, "But nah, if you thought really hard about it you'd figure it out."

We've had discussions relating to LGBT things given that we're both a part of it.  If I was to ever have an ally in the workplace it would be her.  That's the closest I've came to ever telling someone in the workplace, and probably the closest I'll get for a long time. So kudos! :)
Carpe diem.
