I'm pre op and deal with the issues of tucking.  I do like to simulate a menstrual cycle and wear pads once a month.  I was wondering from the post ops how they handled going from tucking to having a bulge from having to wear pads? Thanks

Hi, I have only used light pads for cleanliness, keep the area dry, nothing more, nothing less. Usually I simply wear ordinary undergarments or none at all. It's great to have freedom and don't want to damper this unnecessarily.

After the surgery, we all have to wear pads continuously for a period of time. It feels better because it is flat against your body and there's no more unnecessary bulges that makes the pad shift right and left. But for sure some of us have other pressing feelings (recovery, pain, etc) at that time than wondering how the pads feel and looked like.

I really didn't think about it because I wore a panty girdle before surgery to keep the masses from showing as I never learned how to tuck. I didn't even hear the term until I was post surgical. Once I was post surgical regular panties and a pad were such an improvement I didn't give it a first or second though. It would have been an issue only if I wanted to go swimming and I had no plans to do so.

Pads are generally designed *not* to make much of a bulge, since cis women find it embarrassing if it's obvious that they're wearing one. I suppose some of the heavy-flow super-huge ones might show in very tight pants, but otherwise... Anyway, I only wore the big absorbent pads for the week post-op that I was recovering, and then I was also wearing mesh surgical underpants and nightgowns; by the time I left for home, I was able to wear thin pantiliners.

During initial recovery period, I wore maxi pads for some weeks, then as discharge slowed I downsized pads to ultra thins, then eventually down to nothing, just panties. The first few weeks, the bulge from the pads was nothing, compared to all the changes going on down there.

Nowdays, I find wearing panties very comfortable fitting firmly against my crotch area. I still use ultra thin panty liners after dilation for approx 1 hour or so (usually next toilet stop to remove). I also use a liner after sex as I tend to leak a lot. I do prefer ultra thin longs, as it is amazing the many different positions the vaginal area is from walking, bending, twisting ,turning etc, especially when sleeping. With everyday life, there is usually not enough discharge to need a liner. The cotton gusset in panties is adequate, ranging from a slight stain to nothing.

As others have said, you'll probably have to use pads after surgery for a while.
My Mom was with me during my SRS and afterwards she likened it to having given birth.
I do remember post-surgery I went for a short walk (waddle) around Phuket (Thailand) close to my hotel, and by sheer bad luck I came across a cobra snake. With a liner the size of the titanic down my crotch there was no way I was going to run away, so I just stopped and stared at the snake and it stared at me. It did it's thing where it puffs it's head up and rises up at me.
Even though I'm pretty afraid of snakes, the whole situation actually made me chuckle, whether that was out of fear or just plain resignation I don't know. When I giggled..., well, if a snake could look dejected, this one did. It's like it was saying "Fear me!" and all I could do was laugh.
After a minute or so, we both decided to continue on our separate ways, the path was very narrow so we had to cross by each other. As soon as we were both on our way, a Thai gentleman was walking past me, and he stopped and did that sweet greeting that they all did, and I reciprocated (using the female version which I had been practising). He then saw the snake and screamed "deadly cobra!!!!" and grabbed a rock and smashed the snake to bits. I was a bit shocked, and felt a bit sad for the poor old snake, but it was a resort area, and with children about, and such a bite could have been deadly.
I remember speaking with a TS friend of mine who had been to the same place for her SRS a year earlier, and as I was afraid of snakes, I asked her about the chances of seeing a deadly cobra. She laughed and laughed and said I'd have to trek through the jungle there for days off the beaten track, to try and track one down!
Err yeah... But that's the kind of luck I have in my life.
Anyway, sorry to digress, panty liners after SRS always makes me think of that moment, and how ill-equipped I was for escape at the time...

I wear a very light pad (Tena lights) every day now, and that keeps me fresh for the day. Sorry to sound like an infomercial, but they actually do work well for me as I have occasional discharge and they absorb that and stop odours.
I don't wear especially tight-fitting clothes down there though.

Thanks! That sounded scary. I hate snakes too. Glad it ended well for you. When I visited (not for srs) I visited several snake farms. Glad you had your mom during the surgery. Sounds like other than the snake, all went well. Till srs, I like liners. Thanks

Hey no worries. I could never visit a snake farm though! That is way past my ability! One deadly snake encounter is enough for my lifetime!
Yeah, my Mom was pretty cool for going with me. She is quite short, 5' 4", and commented that she actually enjoyed not being the shortest person around at last, while out there. Plus she has lovely natural platinum blonde hair, and so many Thai people were just so fascinated by her hair. Alas I inherited my Dad's crummy brown hair colour  :'(
I have many anecdotes from my transition, but I try not to derail and clog up the threads with my inane drivel.
Sadly my SRS did not have a good outcome, but I did another thread about that  :(
