I never thought I could make it to this point a year ago, but I have now started HRT. I found a local family doctor that does HRT for trans people on the side (I have friends that go to her too). I was prescribed a moderately high, but common dose of Spironolactone and a low dose of Estradiol  tablets for the first few months. Anyways, I am relieved that I am finally on HRT.

For more clarification, it was on an informed consent basis with some conditions attached like not being completely in the closet to family, having been in therapy for some time (but no letter required), not smoking even a little bit after starting estrogen, no heavy drinking, and being on a low dose for 3 months. She was pretty cool but seemed a little surprised that I am already pretty much full time.

When they say no smoking do they mean second hand smoking too? Cause I like goin to bars n there's always a lot of smoke around.

Kind of, she wants me to stay away from going to the bars on a regular basis though anyway. She is pretty strict on her no smoking rule and wants her patients to make lifestyle changes to go with HRT like eating right and getting regular exercise. she has a "no blood clot rule" which means she won't prescribe E again to any patients who get a blood clot while taking E.

Seems like a reasonable position for a family doctor to take.  Once a clot happens you would need someone with more specific training / experience.
