The Price of Testosterone HRT and Estrogen HRT *Without* Insurance Coverage

What exactly would the price of testosterone HRT and estrogen HRT be without insurance coverage?

Does anyone have any information in regards to this?

Hi there,

I have insurance, BUT they will only pay for one month of T at a time. It is inconvenient for me to get smaller vials and have to spend time calling for refills and driving back in every month, so I pay out of pocket for a big vial that lasts me in the realm of 5 months.

For the big 10ml vial, I paid around $65 a few months ago. Plus around $8 for drawing needles and injecting syringes. It varies month to month, but I've never paid more than $75 for everything and it lasts a while. If we use $75 as the effective price and 150 days/5 months as the length of time it lasts, that's $0.48 per day or $14.40 per month.

Gel prices tend to fluctuate a lot more from what I've seen. I haven't seen the price of pellets, but whoever is administering your HRT could probably look it up if they offer it. Other forms of T aren't available in the US.

It depends on the pharmacy and route of administration.

Non discount prices for oral spiro and Estradiol are anywhere from $30 to $60 for one month's supply for typical dosages. For higher dosages it goes up. Progesterone is about $40 to about $60.

Some pharmacies (such as Walmart and target) have generic low pricing where you can get the estradiol for $4 for 30 pills and $10 for 90 pills. Spiro for typical MTF doses isn't typically on the list, neither is a typical progesterone dose.

I can't speak for injectibles other than some pharmacies catering to MTF will discount it heavily.

Without I pay $80-$120.
I got to Wal-Mart cause that's where it's covered and the cheapest.
I buy 100 needles in bulk for $20 from a website that sells medical supplies.

At my current doses about $60 for three months. There are some variables though, such as my dose when I get everything, where I get it, discounts, prices at the time, and any additional taxes or fees. I might be upping my doses on everything soon, but I'm also switching where I get my spiro, so even though I paid about $110 last time (from what I recall), next time it should only be about $120.

I am currently clawing my way up from "rock Bottom". But even still... it shows me how much my meds "would've" been.
I am currently on Medicaid (Kaiser Permanente), shifting to a work healthcare plan (Kaiser Permanente).
I currently take Spironolactone (Medicaid - $0, Work's plan $4, no coverage $35)

but even if you can't get your hands on any sort of insurance... Medicaid is always available so long as you make under like 15k/year and are "Independent" with no dependents on taxes. Granted you're in the U.S. that is

Also if anybody on here goes to a hospital/clinic that has a sliding scale for the uninsured how generous would ya say that the sliding scale is?? There's a clinic about an hour from where I live that not only does informed consent but has a sliding scale and I'm hoping that can go in my favor.

I have insurance, but the clinic I go to operates on a sliding scale. Visits can be free depending on what you make. I am not sure if they take only yours or your household as a whole's income into consideration. You would probably have to call them and see. I have a friend who went through the sliding scale process at the clinic I go to, and his visits are free. He had to bring in as much information as he could about his income (W2s, tax return, pay stubs, etc.). So I'd make sure you have those things when you go for your visit.

Without insurance, it would cost around $200 to see my doctor each visit and $550 for blood tests. At least according to the bills I get and what my insurance pays out.

Sounds pretty encouraging I don't think I'll have a problem with the sliding scale but in case all fails it seems if I can at least keep a little over a $1000 in my bank account I think I might be ok unless I can get on medicaid and that's if I can even qualify and if medicaid will even cover anything like that.  As for Hormones I'm not worried about the costs as long as I'm actually able to get generics for that $10 for 90 pills at worst I can always bum $10 off a friend lol

Without insurance, my blood tests are $60-100 (typically for just checking estrogen and testosterone levels). Doctor is $60 per visit about every three months. All totaled, I'm paying about $1040 a year for doctor visits, blood tests, and pills. I think it depends on the area, and what kind of places you can find. I know my endo and blood lab are especially cheap, probably because they're small privately-owned places.

Alrighty you made this girl feel even more better I kinda have this feeling the place I'll probably be going to (When I finally get the chance) might charge about that much and from what I do know about it blood tests are at a discount for the uninsured.  Anyway I wish ya a happy new years

So a bit of an update here based on my new experiences with injections - the costs go up dramatically with injections, like hundreds per month. The good news is that there are lower cost alternatives such as strohecker's pharmacy but it's still more than $50 a vial which is 5 doses.

i went to get my spiro and my finesteride refilled a cpl weeks ago and thought i would run down to the local walgreens as i normally go to the walgreens inside my doctors office and get her discount, well i normally pay around 75 bucks for 3 months of spiro, finesteride and estrodiol but with no insurance or discount the local walgreens wanted 247 dollars just for 2 of my 3 pills for 3 months, i called my normal pharmacy the next day lol

I get a generic testosterone for I think $30-$40 without insurance and could last (depending on dose) anywhere between 5 months to a year.

Medicaid covers my spiro and half of my esteridol patches.
With the coupon code from good rx I pay 26 or so for the other half of my scrip at Walmart. That's a month.
