Hey! Jennifer here. I've read so many threads here mostly through Google searches so I thought it was time I introduced myself and maybe occasionally give back to the community :)

I'm Scottish, but living in England right now. I'm 30 years old, felt trans (mtf) since I was a child, was only really a problem as a teen, but I kept it to myself for various reasons including family. Long story short I've made the decision to finally begin HRT and everything else that may come after. I came out to most of my friends, I'm in the process of leaving my job (PhD position) because it's not a good environment for my transitioning, and I started estrogen over a week ago. Deed poll completed, companies being informed of name change.

In the last few years I've been presenting as female when I can, especially at university LGBT events and reasonably safe spaces. I did tell a lot of people I was genderfluid, which helped test the water and let me be myself now and then. Really I was presentationfluid if anything, as I always identify as female.

I really appreciate the advice, knowledge, experience, and kindness from others who are going through similar changes in their lives. I often read about experiences of FTM people too. You're all wonderful and this website has been really useful without signing up.

I have some regrets about not starting sooner. I usually find these sort of things cheesy, but a friend sent me a Chinese proverb that said, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." Here's to a happy transition!

Congratulations!! I just started my hrt 5 days ago. I have started coming out to close friends and family one by one. I am pretty nervous doing so because I am worried how people will react. I will say my boss at work has been extremely great about it. She said she knew that I was transgender lol. She wants to have a meeting with the guys we work with to make sure there will be no issues. My best friend has her masters in psych and she is more than supportive. Anyway welcome to the journey!!!

Thanks and good luck on your journey!   ;D

My close friends have been really amazing. My workplace is a bit transphobic so I'm giving up on it entirely for my own sake, but having supporting friends has made a real difference. My family will definitely take it very badly and I'm telling them after xmas. I want to have one last normal xmas with them!

I've applied for a wonderful dream job that would also be very friendly and safe for transitioning. I find out in the next few days if I've got it. If not, I'll have to keep looking but I can't do my current role and transition at the same time.

The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

Wise words indeed (a good message for me too).

Welcome Jennifer!
