That's true. And I have global entry now so I skip the line
I also have Global Entry (which includes all the TSA PreCheck benefits).
In the last few months I have gone through TSA security in several different airports and I never once had to go through the full body scanners, only the metal detectors. I don't know if that applies in all airports but that was my experience in STL, ORD, DEN, HNL, ROC, and EWR. That is in addition to not having to wait in line, take off shoes, remove laptops or liquids from carry-ons, etc.
I highly recommend joining Global Entry (international travel and domestic US) or TSA Pre (domestic US travel only) if you fly frequently or even just occasionally.
