Caitlyn Jenner to lead Oscar campaign for Tangerine's transgender star

Jenner is spearheading a movement to honour Mya Taylor, potentially in contention in the best supporting actress category for her role as a transgender prostitute in Sundance hit Tangerine.

Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympic athlete and reality TV star, is to lead a campaign to land a best supporting actress Oscar for Mya Taylor.

Taylor has been tipped by some awards pundits to be recognised in the category for her much-acclaimed turn in Sean Baker's Tangerine.

You've got to admit, it would be so cool to see a Transgender win an Academy Award. I haven't seen Tangerine myself, but the movie seems to be garnering a lot of support with critics. And once again Caitlynn steps to the forefront in support of a sister.

Why supporting actress? Aren't the two girls in Tangerine the main characters? (I haven't seen it)

I just watched the trailer... doesn't look too good.  And Rotten Tomatoes is giving it mad props, which also doesn't bode well imo.  I understand that since its Indie, its hip and cool by default, and "won't be understood or appreciated" by all audiences.

What I did find interesting is it's an indie film that was shot strictly on a iPhone, because they said they couldn't afford cameras and stuff.  But the budget was $100,000.

Yes it'd be cool if a transgender person won an Academy Award, and I won't go so far as to say its undeserved because I don't plan on going out of my way to see this movie.  And the fact the Ms. Jenner (of course) is spearheading the campaign, its almost to much for me.

I assumed the budget was boosted by apple in exchange for the iphones thing. it's good publicity for apple. But that's just a guess. And compared to other movies' budgets $100,000 isn't a lot.

Oops I'm sorry, didn't see this thread and posted a short review. Anyway, I truly loved this movie. It does deserve an Oscar.
